Description: | Medieval copper alloy strap-end. The rectangular strap-end is 156mm long, 15mm wide with a pointed foot. There are three rivet holes arranged in a triangle at the attachement end, two of which still contain the copper alloy rivets. The foot end has three further copper alloy rivets, also positioned in a triangle. There is a cast design on the surface comprising of two lines down either side of the strap-end, with a central design, however the detail of this design is obscured due to the corroded surface. Some of the copper colour can be seen through the dull green patina. The reverse of the strap-end is unknown, as the artefact was identified from a photograph. | Source: | Portable Antiquities | Creator: | McLean, Laura - Portable Antiquities Scheme | Identifier: | http://www.findsdatabase.org.uk/hms/pas_... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
