Description: | Medieval copper alloy buckle plate. The folded copper alloy sheet has a looped end to hold the strap bar of the buckle frame. There is a central, rectangular slot in this loop to accommodate the buckle pin. The plate is rectangular, with a small recess to either side of the loop to alloy movement of the buckle frame. There is a rivet hole on the outer edge of the plate, containing the corroded remains of an iron rivet. One plate has a worn break just before the rivet hole. Both surfaces are plain and undecorated. The brooch has an even mid green patina. The plate is 19.31mm long, 6.42mm wide and 2.81mm thick. The copper alloy sheet is 0.51mm thick. | Subjects: | Plate | Source: | Portable Antiquities | Creator: | McLean, Laura - Portable Antiquities Scheme | Identifier: | http://www.findsdatabase.org.uk/hms/pas_... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
