Description: | Early-medieval strap-end cast in copper alloy. The triangular split end is incomplete, with the upper terminal completely missing. The remaining part of the attachment end has two circular rivet holes, one of which has breaks extending to the outside edge. These breaks are recent post-depositional damge as they have not yet worn. The body of the strap end is rectangular, and divided into three sections by evenly spaced transverse grooves. The lower section is probably a stylised animal head, and a raised triangular element of the head is just visible on either side of the terminal. The reverse of the strap end is plain and undecorated. The surface is worn. The strap end has an even mid-green patina. It is 36.70mm long, has a maximum width of 8.32mm, a minimum width of 4.21mm and is 2.41mm thick. | Source: | Portable Antiquities | Creator: | McLean, Laura - Portable Antiquities Scheme | Identifier: | http://www.findsdatabase.org.uk/hms/pas_... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
