Description: | A busy street view outside Charing Cross Station (which can be seen to the right of the photograph with the Eleanor Cross in the forecourt). The Eleanor Cross is a replica of one of the 12 crosses erected by Edward I when his wife Queen Eleanor of Castile died in 1290. The memorial crosses signify each place the funeral procession stopped. It was designed by E M Barry and was erected on the site of its predecessor in 1863. | Subjects: | People (Active) Commemorative Monument Street Scene Commemorative Railway Station | Source: | English Heritage - Viewfinder | Creator: | not known | Identifier: | http://viewfinder.english-heritage.org.u... | Language: | en | Go to resource |
