Description: | This photo album was produced in 1937 to mark the fifth anniversary of the British Union of Fascists (BUF). This section of the album includes photographs of the BUF's 'Stand by the King' campaign during the abdication crisis in 1936. During the crisis, Edward VIII (who had known pro-Fascist and pro-Nazi sympathies) was forced to abdicate in order to be able to marry the American divorcee Wallis Simpson. The Fascists campaigned in his favour, before transferring their allegiance to George VI following Edward's abdication. | License: | http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/ | Publisher: | Bishopsgate Institute | Rights holder: | Bishopsgate Institute | Subjects: | Power and Politics | Temporal: | 1937 | Source: | Bishopsgate Institute | Identifier: | http://www.20thcenturylondon.org.uk/rser... | Go to resource |
