Description: | This photograph shows a sailing ship, with a part of the Royal Naval College at Greenwich in the background. The Royal Naval College was opened in 1873, taking over the buildings of the defunct Greenwich Hospital set up to look after retired sailors, which had closed in 1869. As the name implies, the College was a training establishment until its closure in 1998. The buildings are currently occupied by a variety of institutions, including the University of Greenwich and Trinity College of Music, and form part of a World Heritage Site. | License: | http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/ | Publisher: | Bishopsgate Institute | Rights holder: | London and Middlesex Archaeological Society | Subjects: | Public services Transport | Temporal: | c1900 | Source: | Bishopsgate Institute | Identifier: | http://www.20thcenturylondon.org.uk/rser... | Go to resource |
