Description: | J Lyons & Co issued this souvenir tea caddy in 1953 to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
Royal souvenir containers and packaging were first produced in the late 19th century. Although it is not permissible to use photographs of the royal family for advertising purposes, manufacturers may reproduce royal portraits on souvenirs of state occasions.
In 1953 most manufacturers issued commemorative packaging incorporating royal symbols and official portraits. The queen's image was repeatedly reproduced to promote the sale of every conceivable product including sweets, ale, biscuits, soap and, in this case, tea. | License: | http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/ | Publisher: | Museum of London | Rights holder: | Museum of London | Subjects: | Identity and Icons Home and Family | Temporal: | 1953 | Source: | Museum of London | Identifier: | http://www.20thcenturylondon.org.uk/rser... | Go to resource |
