Description: | Selfridges department store used this souvenir paper bag as packaging. Produced to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, the bag is printed with an image of the coronation coach.
Royal souvenir packaging was first produced in the late 19th century. Although manufacturers are not allowed to use photos of the royal family for advertising purposes, they may reproduce royal portraits on souvenirs at times of state occasions. In 1953, all London department stores commissioned commemorative packaging both to promote their businesses and to participate in the national mood of celebration. | License: | http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/ | Publisher: | Museum of London | Rights holder: | Museum of London | Subjects: | Leisure Identity and Icons | Temporal: | 1953 | Source: | Museum of London | Identifier: | http://www.20thcenturylondon.org.uk/rser... | Go to resource |
