Description: | This glass beaker, decorated with the royal coat of arms, was produced as a souvenir of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in June 1953. To commemorate the coronation, manufacturers produced a range of both mass-produced and limited-edition souvenirs. The government's decision to forbid the importation of foreign commemorative ware and to lift purchase tax on souvenirs offered a tremendous boost to the struggling post-war economy, helping many shops and businesses, including Selfridges, achieve record profits for the year. | License: | http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/ | Publisher: | Museum of London | Rights holder: | Museum of London | Subjects: | Power and Politics Identity and Icons | Temporal: | 1953 | Source: | Museum of London | Identifier: | http://www.20thcenturylondon.org.uk/rser... | Go to resource |
