Description: | This children's pop-up picture book, Long Live the Queen! The coronation Book with realistic pop-up pictures was published as a souvenir to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. It tells the story of two children who come to London to see the procession from the balcony of their father's office.
The 'new Elizabethan age' was intended to give 'inspiration and encouragement to the young'. The significance of the coronation service was taught in schools and children featured prominently in local borough celebrations. To children, Elizabeth II was a fairytale queen. She was young, beautiful, married to a handsome prince and had two small children. Manufacturers responded to this fascination with the royal family by producing a range of coronation souvenirs aimed specifically at children. | License: | http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/ | Publisher: | Museum of London | Rights holder: | Museum of London | Subjects: | Identity and Icons | Temporal: | 1953 | Source: | Museum of London | Identifier: | http://www.20thcenturylondon.org.uk/rser... | Go to resource |
