Description: | St John's College Library was opened in 1516. By 1616 the growth of its collections of printed books and manuscripts necessitated its removal to a new building, and in 1628 the Old Library, as it is now known, was completed. Since then the Old Library has acquired books, manuscripts, collections of personal papers, artefacts, and photographs to fill its shelves.
The MLA Designated Old Library Collection now includes over 30,000 early printed books (including more than 300 incunables), 270 medieval manuscripts, over 250 post-medieval manuscripts, almost 80 collections of personal papers, photographs and artefacts. Our printed collections are particularly strong in theology, science, medicine, mathematics, classics, history, geography and law, while our personal papers are especially strong in the fields of mathematics and science. | Source: | MLA Institutions Server | Address: | St John's Street,Cambridge,Cambridgeshire,CB2 1TP | Sector: | Libraries | Type: | Further/Higher Education | Jurisdiction: | St John's College, Cambridge University | FAX: | 01223 337035 | Telephone: | 01223 339393 | Identifier: | 34930 |
