Title: Portchester church, Hants [Go to resource]
Description: Originally an Augustinian priory founded by Henry I in 1131 within the Roman enclosure of Portchester Castle. It is an outstanding Romanesque church, which remains substantially intact. It is a squat building compared to many Norman churches. It is possible that this was to prevent the building projecting above the surrounding castle walls.
