Description: This leaflet was clearly designed for a fairly well-off audience. In 1921 the basic wage at the Huntley & Palmers factory was reduced to £2.17 shillings, which rose to £3.10 shillings in 1942 - so to spend 10/6 on luxury items such as these would have taken a considerable slice of the average weekly wage. The names of the biscuits in this hamper - Windsor cake and Empire Assorted - suggest that patriotism was thought of as a selling point. Auld Lange Syne shortbread perhaps indicates that this basket miscellany could have doubled as a Christmas hamper.
