Description: | During this period local authorities often gave commemorative gifts, often appropriately decorated cups, to the pupils in their schools. This small Silver Jubilee tin was intended for the same purpose, as is made clear by the inscription on the side "This tin of biscuits made by Huntley & Palmers is presented by the County Borough of Reading to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Accession of H.M.THE KING 6th May 1935". It is the same size as the 'Edward VIII Coronation Tin' (1937), which was made for Cleethorpes council for the same purpose, and which had to be withdrawn when Edward abdicated. On the 10 May 1935 the Corporation of Reading presented each pupil in the Wilson school in Reading with a tin of Huntley & Palmers biscuits and a book. Almost certainly this was the tin which would have been used on this occasion. | Format: | image/jpeg | License: | http://www.sopse.org.uk/ixbin/hixclient.exe?a=query&p=gateway&f=generic_sitetext%2ehtm&_IXFIRST_=1&_IXMAXHITS_=1&cms_con_core_subtype%3acms_con_text_what=copyright&%3acms_sys_group=%22sopse%22 | Publisher: | Huntley & Palmers | Rights holder: | Reading Borough Council (Reading Museum Service) | Subjects: | social history trade George V Queen Mary | Temporal: | start=1935-01-01; end=1935-12-31; | Source: | Sense of place SE | Creator: | Huntley, Boorne & Stevens | Identifier: | http://www.sopse.org.uk/ixbin/hixclient.... | Language: | en-GB | Format: | image/jpeg | Go to resource |
