Description: | This unusually tin shape was used on a set of three tins issued in the closing years of the nineteenth century. The others are 'Mosaic and 'Floral'. 30,000 copies of this tin were made, fewer than of the other two, of which 40,000 each were made. No doubt the choice of subject matter was partly informed by an awareness that the reign of Queen Victoria must soon draw to a close. She had celebrated her Golden Jubilee in 1887, which was commemorated with a Huntley & Palmers tin. Comparison between these two queens was often made towards the end of Victoria's reign. Each of the scenes on the tin is labelled, for example 'Proclaiming Queen Elizabeth at Cheapside Cross' and 'Queen Elizabeth Entering into London'. | Format: | image/jpeg | License: | http://www.sopse.org.uk/ixbin/hixclient.exe?a=query&p=gateway&f=generic_sitetext%2ehtm&_IXFIRST_=1&_IXMAXHITS_=1&cms_con_core_subtype%3acms_con_text_what=copyright&%3acms_sys_group=%22sopse%22 | Publisher: | Huntley & Palmers | Rights holder: | Reading Borough Council (Reading Museum Service) | Subjects: | Queen Elizabeth II hallibard event royalty horse costume castle arms and armour people cannon animal | Temporal: | start=1889-01-01; end=1890-12-31; | Source: | Sense of place SE | Creator: | Huntley, Boorne & Stevens | Identifier: | http://www.sopse.org.uk/ixbin/hixclient.... | Language: | en-GB | Format: | image/jpeg | Go to resource |
