Description: | Titchfield Abbey was a Premonstratensian house founded in 1232 by Peter des Roches, Bishop of Winchester. Shortly after the Dissolution, Thomas Wriothesley, Earl of Southampton, converted parts of the building into a mansion (Place House), the work being finished by Thomas Bertie. It was later owned by the Delme family, who abandoned it about 1780 on moving to Cams Hall (Fareham), which was enlarged by reusing material from Place House.
The remains of the building now consist mainly of the Gatehouse and part of its flanking wings, fashioned out of the abbey nave. The spectacular Tudor-Gothic Gatehouse, with its large four-story castellated turrets, is virtually intact.
