Title: Cheriton church [Go to resource]
Description: This low square-towered church stands on a mound immediately to the west of the village of Cheriton. It is in the main a thirteenth-century building, but probably much altered after a fire in 1744. Nikolaus Pevsner dates the flint and brick mixture of the tower from that time. It is a large church, befitting a wealthy benefice under royal patronage for many years. The more usual view of the church is from the south, showing the prominent south porch. The tower is now (2003) without the parapets. Reference: Pevsner, Nikolaus and David Lloyd. 1967. Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The Buildings of England series, p.164.
