Description: | The Recreation Ground was given to the people of Fareham in the 19th century by Squire Deane of Fairfield and later Fareham House. It is situated between the railway embankment to the north and Fareham Creek to the south. For many years this was the towns only recreation ground until shortly before the last war when a new ground was laid out opposite Price's School. This was called the Park Lane recreation ground, and the old one became the Bath Lane recreation ground.
Apart from being used for sport and a general playing
area, the grounds were used for the Fire Brigade's practices and demonstrations. It was for many years the home of the Fareham Football Club but it was also used for cricket matches and had a children's playground.
The white yacht was Fareham's only steam yacht and belonged to Dr Woakes of Belvoir House which was pulled down in the 1930's. The sailing barge is carrying sand.
