Description: | The bridge was once the main entry into the village of Wallington leading into the heart of the village. The back gardens of the cottages in Wallington Shore Road lead right down to the river. For many years, the village suffered problems with flooding.
The ford by the bridge was kept open for horses and carts to be driven in and washed. In times of high tide and heavy rain, it was common for the area around Broadcut and Wallington Shore Road to flood and for water to pour through the cottages. The River Wallington is tidal to Wallington Bridge.
