Description: | Quay Street, up to the 1960's contained many attractive buildings. There were Georgian houses, Millards, Wheeler's Timber Yard and a small shop called Clacks which was once Fareham's first telephone exchange as well as its old grain storages. A passage was found in Millards leading straight to the Upper Quay and was possibly used for smuggling. Clark's Yard, built of Fareham Red bricks was pulled down and replaced by the new police station.
Some of the buildings in Quay Street disappeared in May 1968 when several buildings were demolished to start the construction of Eastern Way.
