Description: | The Delme roundabout is where the M27 motorway junction of Fareham Central feeds into the old A27 road linking Portsmouth to Southampton. Originally there was an arched bridge over the River Wallington with a large mill pond behind. Over the years, the road was straightened and the mill pond filled in. The course of the river was changed and was partly canalised. The large Delme roundabout was built in its place because of the increasing amount of traffic on the road. It was later altered again when the M27 was built with the connection to the motorway entering and leaving from the roundabout.
Situated on the roundabout is the Roundabout Hotel.
The Roundabout Hotel was originally St Edith's House (or Home) for Girls. It was built in 1907 replacing the Church of England Society of Homes for Waifs and Strays which had been in existence in some form or other since 1869. There were usually about twenty girls in residence who were trained in domestic duties so they could find work as servants.
Near the railway line on the Portchester Road is what was once known as the Delme Arms corner. The Delme Arms public house, despite a disastrous fire, is still there today. It was originally the Horse and Groom.
