Description: | Bridge Street leads from the junction of Coach Hill and South Street towards Stubbington. At one time, it contained a weighbridge at the entrance of the former Titchfield gasworks, which closed in 1951.
In Bridge Street is the bridge over the River Meon.
Until the 17th century Titchfield was a thriving port. It was then that the Earl of Southampton ordered a dam to be built at Meon. Whilst this successfully drained the marshes, it also meant that craft could no longer sail up to Titchfield. This unpopular action seriously affected the prosperity of the village. Although he had a canal constructed, this was not used by barges after the mid 1800's.
