Description: | The square at Titchfield is full of school children in their best clothes with boys and girls in opposite groups. The square has always been the centre of village life and a market, mentioned on the Domesday Book, was held for hundreds of years. A Market Hall was built in the square in the 16th century where it stood for about three hundred years. This was where the five day fairs granted to the Abbot of Titchfield by King Henry V1 were held.
The Bugle was once an old coaching inn and has changed very little in appearance over the years. In the early 1900's the proprietors were G & A Powell and offered other services apart from serving beer and spirits. Teas and luncheons were served in the hotel whilst the Bugle Hotel Mews at the side of the building offered other services, including stables, hire a cart or use the General Carrier and Forwarding Service. The village stocks once stood in front of the Bugle, also the Market Hall and cage.
Also in the square was the Sidney House Drug Store, an agricultural chemist which offered, among other things, condition powder for horses for sale.
