Title: West Street, Portchester [Go to resource]
Description: Besides the cyclists, horses and cattle would have been driven along Portchester's main street, West Street. The house half way along to the right with ivy growing over the front is Dore Farm House, the Red Lion is just before it and in the left background is a glimpse of the thatched cottage of Barney Perkins, whose son, Thomas, worked in the clay pipe factory in Castle Street. Today a shopping precinct occupies the area. Reference: 1. Montgomery, Alan. 1984. My goodness! My Portchester, p 43. Copy photograph of a photograph.
