Description: | View of 2 storey early Victorian house with roof conversion with 2 pillar portico at entrance. The building has several tenants - Homewood Surgery of Chiropractic Neuro-Spinology, Wessex Timber Preservation, Ronald W Hunt, Architect and N E Carspares Ltd, Accounts Department. In the central first floor window are the words Mortgage General Marine & Co., Insurance Brokers. Many of the houses in High Street are now used and divided by various businesses.
Few streets in southern England have such a splendid series of Georgian country town houses as High Street in Fareham. However, in fact, the buildings are an attractive mixture of styles and period, including Victorian. During the mid and late 18th century, many senior naval officers and their families settled in the town which prospered during this time.
In shape the street is mediaeval beginning narrowly at the north, curving, widening, descending, and splitting at the bottom where there is an island block of buildings.
