Description: | Portchester Road is the A27 trunk road linking Fareham and Portsmouth. The Delme bridge crossed the River Wallington near the mill pond and an old quay at Cams. All this today has disappeared beneath the Delme roundabout. The area, known as Bridgefoot is now a busy junction and a small bridge now replaces the arched bridge of the photograph. The mill pond which gradually silted up and was in decline by the beginning of the 20th century had become very marshy but was useful in controlling flooding, a problem on the Wallington, as it held surplus water during high tides. The course of the river was also changed to the Wallington Shore Road and was partly canalised.
