Description: In 1900s public taste was moving away from the hard semi-sweet biscuits on which Huntley & Palmers had built their reputation. Softer 'short-eating' varieties, like the shortbreads, became more popular and there was also a growing demand for biscuit assortments and Chocolate biscuits, although the firm delayed until 1912 before it manufactured chocolate biscuits. The chocolate department was often considered to be the most prestigious department to work in at the Reading Biscuit Factory.
