Description: By the 1900s a large percentage of Huntley & Palmers profits came from the export trade, including the French market. The company's concentration on overseas trade meant that it neglected its home markets and allowed competitors like McVitie to gain a foothold. The company's exports were badly hit by World War I. By 1926 trade with France had declined to £14,500, mainly due to heavy customs tariffs and unfavourable exchange rates.
