Description: | The construction of these private railway sidings was made possible by the purchase of land between the north bank of the River Kennet and the GWR mainline in 1868. Both the north and south manufacturing departments had loading bays from which the steam locomotives could take wagons to and from the mainline railway. In 1875 the company purchased a pair of Black Hawthorn and Co of Gateshead 20 ton locomotives. These were supplemented in 1900 by a pair of Peckett and Sons of Bristol 25 ton locomotives. A small two-road locomotive shed was constructed at the northeast corner of the site, adjacent to the Wokingham line, to house these engines.
