Description: | In this picture, the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt rise up from the surrounding desert, their pale forms standing out against the morning sky. In the foreground, herders are watering their animals in a pool left by the River Nile. Every year the river floods, covering the banks with rich mud. On the far side of the pool, a farmer is ploughing with two oxen. Frederick Goodall visited Egypt in 1858-9 and 1870, and decorated his house in England in Egyptian style. Egyptian subjects and styles were popular in the late 19th century. | License: | http://www.imagine.org.uk/about/copyright/ | Rights holder: | Tyne & Wear Museums | Subjects: | beyond the North East artists oil paintings art men women | Source: | Tyne and Wear Imagine | Identifier: | http://www.imagine.org.uk/details/index.... | Go to resource |
