Description: | This is a lithograph, a type of print. It shows the old Town Hall in the Market Place, South Shields. Known as the 'Cross', it was built in 1768; the open ground floor was intended for use as a corn and provision market. St Hilda's Church can also be seen in the background. The artist who made the original drawing has signed his initials J.R. on the left, while the lithographer W.
