Description: | 4th February 1924. Old toll house, seen from Pepper Lane, deatched stone building with walled garden round. The windows have been broken. In the 18th and 19th centurys, Turnpike Trusts were formed to build and maintain roads. A toll would be charged for using them at strategic points, hence the toll houses for collectors. | License: | http://www.leodis.net/article.aspx?id=12 | Rights holder: | Leeds Central Library | Subjects: | Toll House | Source: | Leodis - A photographic archive of Leeds | Identifier: | http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?id=20... | Go to resource |
