View shows the Victoria Buildings on what is now The Headrow. The view was taken prior to the redevelopment and widening of the Headrow, when this section of the road was called Park Lane and was situated directly in front of the Municipal Buildings. The buildings reached from where the chess boards are painted on the ground outside Central Library to the edge of the Garden of Rememberance. This was the original site of the Leeds Permanent Building Society from 1876 Victoria Buildings was also the premises of a number of solicitors including F.W. Bell and Coghlan and Hart. On the right edge is part of number 16 Taylors Typewriting Office and Hindle, Son and Lee, estate agents. Both firms are moving in preparation for the imminent demolition. On the left is part of the Town Hall with the statue of Queen Victoria in front. | License: | http://www.leodis.net/article.aspx?id=12 | Rights holder: | Leeds Central Library | Subjects: | The Headrow Leeds Permanent Building | Source: | Leodis - A photographic archive of Leeds | Identifier: | http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?id=20... | Go to resource |
