Photographic portrait of Edward Caldwell Spruce (1849-1923), the sculptor born in Knutsford, Cheshire. Spruce became a modeller for the Burmantoffs Pottery Company before studying in Paris and exhibiting at the Paris Salon. At his Cowper Street studio in Chapeltown he modelled personalities, including Sir James Kitson and Sam Wilson. These busts are on display at the Civic Hall and Leeds Art Gallery.
