The brick built John Smeaton Community High School situated in Smeaton Approach off Barwick Road. The school caters for over 1500 pupils aged 11 to 18 years old. It is named after the civil engineer John Smeaton, famous for, amongst many other things, successfully redesigning the Eddystone Lighthouse.
