View looking from the Portland Stone Steps of the Civic Hall at work in progress during the construction of Millennium Square. The building under construction is the cafe and terrace, built onto the existing Brodrick building. It is named The Qube. In the background, centre, part of the Leeds Institute in Cookridge Street is visible. It was designed by Cuthbert Brodrick and completed in 1868, for education purposes. For many years it has been used as the Civic Theatre but, as part of the Millennium Square refurbishment, is to house the New Leeds Museum. The grade II listed Electric Press Building can be seen far right, at 39 Cookridge Street. It was built in 1900 as a printing works and is also being renovated to enhance the square. The three storeys plus attics and basements are ideal for a mix of leisure and office use. The new theatre is to be built on the North West corner of the Electric Press block and adjoining Stansfield Chambers block. | License: | http://www.leodis.net/article.aspx?id=12 | Rights holder: | Leeds Central Library | Subjects: | Electric Press Building The Qube Civic Theatre Leeds Museum Brodrick Building Stansfield Chambers Civic Hall Cookridge Street Millennium Square Leeds Institute | Source: | Leodis - A photographic archive of Leeds | Identifier: | http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?id=20... | Go to resource |
