Image shows the oldest example of stained glass to be found in Woodkirk Church, St. Mary's, located in Dewsbury Road. It is believed to date from the thirteenth century and is thought to depict St. Catherine on the wheel. Catherine of Alexandria had converted to Christianity and came to the attention of the Roman Emperor for her debates and conversions of pagan philosophers and even the Empress. She was ordered to be put to death on the wheel which broke as she touched it. She was then beheaded C.305 in Alexandria, Egypt.
