Description: | View of the Vale of Ffestiniog in Gwynedd, North Wales. Ffestiniog developed during the 19th century due to the abundance of naturally occurring slate in the area. Mines were established and by the end of the period Ffestiniog’s twenty five working mines were producing a third of Wales’ national output. James John Hissey stayed in the Vale during his tour of Wales which he recorded in his work, ‘An Old fashioned Journey through England and Wales’ published in 1884. He wrote “…there was a magnificent view of the richly wooded and lovely vally of Ffestiniog, ending with a serioes of mountain peaks. The prospect was truly a glorious one”. | License: | http://www.bl.uk/services/copy/permission.html | Publisher: | MacDonald, T. | Rights holder: | British Library | Source: | Collect Britain | Creator: | Goodwin, Edward | Identifier: | http://www.collectbritain.co.uk/personal... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
