Description: | View of Castle Cornet, in the Channel Islands. The castle is situated on a rocky islet off the coast of the Island of Guernsey, strategically placed so that it could only be attacked from the sea. The castle was built in the early 13th century to defend Guernsey against French invaders and it guarded St Peter Port until the mid 19th century when it was superseded by Fort George and was connected to the mainland through the building of a breakwater and a bridge. | License: | http://www.bl.uk/services/copy/permission.html | Rights holder: | British Library | Source: | Collect Britain | Identifier: | http://www.collectbritain.co.uk/personal... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
