Description: | Section plan of Elizabeth Castle, situated on an islet in St Aubin’s Bay, Jersey. Work began on the castle in 1550 when a gun platform was built on the islands highest point. In 1594 Paul Ivy the Royal Military Engineer, was appointed to develop the castle. In succeeding centuries the castle was extended and refortified with the addition of a powder magazine and barracks. This plan of the outer ward in 1755, was drawn up by Sub Engineer I Mason on a scale of 50 feet to an inch. | License: | http://www.bl.uk/services/copy/permission.html | Rights holder: | British Library | Source: | Collect Britain | Creator: | Manson, I. | Identifier: | http://www.collectbritain.co.uk/personal... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
