Description: | Construction work in progress in the Greek Court at the Crystal Palace exhibition hall in Sydenham. Crystal Palace was designed by architect Joseph Paxton for the first universal fair held in Hyde Park in 1851. After the exhibition closed, the prefabricated building was dismantled and reconstructed in south-east London. It was a milestone in the development of modern architecture for it's innovative use of wrought iron and glass and it became a national centre of entertainment and enlightenment for the British public. | License: | http://www.bl.uk/services/copy/permission.html | Publisher: | The Photographic Institution | Rights holder: | British Library | Subjects: | Construction Industry Architecture Attractions People And Society Art Cartography And Topography Sculpture Leisure And The Arts Science And Technology Faith and Religion Ancient World Trade And Economics Industry | Source: | Collect Britain | Creator: | Delamotte, Philip Henry (1820 - 1889) | Identifier: | http://www.collectbritain.co.uk/personal... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
