Description: | Designed by Joseph Paxton for the Great Exhibition of 1851 in Hyde Park, the Crystal Palace was dismantled, re-erected and enlarged in Sydenham Hill, 1852-1854. British photographer P H Delamotte was commissioned to document its reconstruction in south-east London for the Crystal Palace Art Union. This photo depicts the building of the south wing, seen from the palace. After its re-opening in 1854, the palace housed a national centre of entertainment and enlightenment for the British public. | License: | http://www.bl.uk/services/copy/permission.html | Publisher: | The Photographic Institution | Rights holder: | British Library | Subjects: | Construction Industry Cartography And Topography Leisure And The Arts Architecture Attractions Trade And Economics Industry | Source: | Collect Britain | Creator: | Delamotte, Philip Henry (1820 - 1889) | Identifier: | http://www.collectbritain.co.uk/personal... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
