Description: | Worcestershire sauce was introduced to Britain by a former governor of Bengal, Lord Marcus Sandys. When he returned to England, he brought with him the recipe for a spicy sauce to which he had been particularly partial in India. He gave this recipe to his local chemists, John Lea and William Perrins, and asked them to make it for him. When he tasted their original mixture he was disappointed, so he left it with the chemists. A few months later they rediscovered the mixture and saw that it had fermented and matured into the spicy sauce that Sandys had recommended. The firm of Lea and Perrins continues to sell Worcestershire sauce to this day.
