Description: | Photograph of a close view of the south doorway of the Kashivishvashvara Temple in Lakkundi, taken by Henry Cousens in the 1880s as part of the Archaeological Survey of India Collections: Indian Museum Series (Duplicates). The Kashivishveshvara Temple of Lakkundi is a Hindu Late Chalukya monument from the 12th century. It consists of two sanctuaries that face each other, linked by an open porch. The outer walls are decorated with sculptures and sharply carved details. The doorways are decorated with bands of scrollwork along the jambs and mouldings and figures of divinities at the base. Over the lintel there is a panel with Gaja Lakshmi. This is a view of the south doorway (whose aperture has been blocked up with masonry and miscellaneous pieces and column), showing intricately carved bands of sculpture on the architraves. | License: | http://www.bl.uk/services/copy/permission.html | Rights holder: | British Library | Subjects: | Art Hindu Temples Temples Sacred Architecture Sculpture Leisure And The Arts Architecture | Source: | Collect Britain | Creator: | Cousens, Henry | Identifier: | http://www.collectbritain.co.uk/personal... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
