Description: | This picture by John Irving depicts the residence of the Governor of the Bahamas, on the island of New Providence. It was used as a residence for governors until 1801, when a new house was built on Mount William. The old building was then used as an academy. William Dowdeswell, who was Governor from November 1797 until 1801, established the Botanic Gardens in Nassau. | License: | http://www.bl.uk/services/copy/permission.html | Publisher: | Harding, Edw. | Rights holder: | British Library | Source: | Collect Britain | Creator: | Irving, John | Identifier: | http://www.collectbritain.co.uk/personal... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
