Description: | Illustration of Fort Charlotte in Barbados taken from Frederick Bayley's 'Four Years Residence in the West Indies.' Fort Charlotte stood on Berkshire Hill, 6,000ft above sea level. The fort had commanding views across the harbour to the ocean and down to Kingstown in the valley. It housed 500 men and its buildings included a guard house, barracks and a mess room.
