Description: | The vast and long-established local studies and archives collections feature material relating to all natural and human aspects of the local environment. There are also 12,000 books and pamphlets relating to the Borough or general reference topics. The 5,500 linear metres of archives include records from local government, the health authority, local businesses, schools, Board of Guardian, Rochdale Parish Church Archive (except registers) and Rochdale Pioneers minutes. Family, private and estate papers include major bequests and donations from Richard Heape (books, photographs and family papers) & Henry Brierley (books, Rochdale wills etc). There is also a complete census record for the area. The museum also collects locally produced newspapers e.g. local Rochdale newspapers from 1827.(many on microfilm) and those of wider circulation with related articles.
