Description: | -The social history collections include material that is of particular importance in the Fens, such as Fen drainage tools and clothing, fishing equipment (eels), wildfowling, Fen skating and material relating to the 1947 floods. There are also collections of material from local breweries, coopers and basket makers, Victorian and Edwardian furniture and domestic appliances, local societies, schools, trades and industries and entertainments.;There is an extensive photographic collection showing people, places and events in Ely and the Isle, mainly from the nineteenth century.;Small collection of transport items including a penny farthing bicycle; a bone shaker bicycle ridden by James Moore in the first ever bicycle race in 1868; a fire engine from 1808; a funeral bier, a sedan chair used in Ely and a communal bath chair.;Collection of local trade tokens, which is believed to be the only complete set of Ely trade tokens.;Small collection of agricultural hand tools.;
Collection of memorabilia associated with Frederick Vernon Cross (1894-1977), who was a ventriloquist and entertainer and a baker in Ely. The collection includes his ventriloquists dummy with two male heads and a female head, together with photographs of his performances. Cross was one of the founders of Ely Museum.
