Description: | -The social history collections are extensive and cover all aspects of village life in the past and, increasingly, at the present day. They include the tools and products of local craftsmen such as the thatcher, butcher, builder, baker, saddler, blacksmith and wheeelwright and signs and bottles from the two village breweries with the tools of the maltsters and cooper who worked at them. Domestic life material includes the equipment for cooking over an open fire (chimney jacks and cranes) as well as alater cast iron range, irons and floor cleaners. There are some tools for straw plaiting and for spinning as well as personal items such as parasols. Children's toys, games, prams and a rocking horse and items reflecting local schooling.;There is a small archaeology collection from excavations carried out in the parish and casual finds, including some material from Arbury Banks hillfort.;The museum holds a collection of original and copy images of local personalities, scenes and buildings, activities and events. The museum is also recording present day events in the village.;The museum has a collection of 19th and 20th century costume, which includes an interesting child's smock suit which was rescued from the dressing up box of a local primary school. Among the collection of textiles, there is a sampler by the well known embroiderer, Percy Sheldrick. ;The museum has a collection of local documents relating to Ashwell, and a collection of printed ephemera relating to local businesses and events.;Small collection of agricultural tools, mainly hand tools, and items associated with the horse, including herbal remedies, a stable charm and primitve medecine.
