Description: | -The collection contains farm tools and vehicles, which are mostly of local significance , except for two early wooden ploughs.;The collection ranges mainly from the 17th to the 20th century with costume and accessories not necessarily of local origin. It includes outerwear and underwear, children's costume, samplers, lace and stumpwork, sewing aids, and military uniforms and equipment from the Essex Volunteer regiments.;The collection includes coins, tokens, medals and seals. It is mostly of local significance, apart from the Cuerdale Hoard of Saxon coins. There is a good range of Iron Age and Roman coins.; ;The social history collections include material relating to domestic life, timepieces, lighting, laundry etc. There is a small but regionally significant collection of dolls from the 18th - 20th century and doll's clothes from the 17th -19th century. Small collection of children's toys and games.;The photographic collection includes topographical items and portraits, mainly from Saffron Walden and Essex.;Small collection of medical instruments.
